Since I last posted, I have now finished the boat with the launch taking place on the 06th April 2024! An exciting day that's for sure!

I thought I would come back to my blog and write a post explaining what has happened since I last posted noting that it was a long time ago. Since the start of my build I have maintained detailed updates of my build on facebook so if you scroll back on my page 'Dan Turner- Mini Globe Race 2025 you will be able to find a lot of information and all the pictures there. I have just updated to a paid website however am finding this website builder more difficult to add photos. Many of my former posts are available at https://seacam83.wixsite.com/mysite-1 (noted on the Class Globe 580 page) in the event you would like to see some more photos of the build there as well.

In terms of the fitout since glassing and fairing the deck, everything has essentially been completed with the assistance of professionals / shipwrights.

The stainless steel work was completed and shipped over from Poland by Piotr, the keel and bulb was manufactured by a company in Adelaide and professionally welded by a certified welder and ISO certified business. The steel used was actual bulb was ended up weighing 64.1kg each side which is above the original class requirements however have since changed to a recommend 65kg. Whilst I was agreed dispensation for this minor weight discrepancy, we did add an extra approx 2kg each side via what was essentially a lead shot washer whilst applying the bulb to the keel.

The deck fittings were from the original blue shark package (purchased more than 3 years ago) so I think some of these have been updated since this time.

All gudgeons etc were fitted from the original stainless steel package and everything purchased was fitted consistent with the plans.

I was assisted through the deck fitout process with qualified shipwrights (Yachtlab) which allowed me to finalise the build and get the boat in the water in recent months.

I am now looking forward to test sailing and finalising the electrical work which is being completed by an independant professional (Shipptek) who does a great job in this area. Further details to be provided in due course.
