Globe 580 Transat
Current Campaigns:
Dan Turner is now a preliminary entry in the Globe 580 Transat due to start on 24th December 2024. A mini adventure 3,600 nautical miles across the Atlantic!
Dan is intending on competing in this race as a qualifier for the Mini Globe Race which is due to start within weeks of finishing this event.
Building the Class Globe 580
Whilst this project is almost complete, it is essentially still ongoing until the start of the 2025 Mini Globe Race. Dan started building the Class Globe 580 in 2020 and was a huge project in itself having come from having no boatbuilding skills whatsoever.
It has been a massive effort getting to this stage, and something Dan is extremely proud of.
Mini Globe Race 2025
Dan Turner is a confirmed entrant in the 2025 Mini Globe Race.
The entrants will sail around the World west about, over four legs via the traditional trade wind route. Mass restarts will take place for each leg, the start date set approximately two weeks after 25% of the fleet has arrived. An entrant MUST stop for at least seven days in a pit stop port but can stay longer with the clock restarting after seven days. An entrant can stop in any other non-scheduled port, but the clock keeps running.
From Sands to Sea
Dan is currently writing an autobiography about his adventures to date. Whilst the book is in its final stages and he is hoping to release the book prior to the Mini Globe Race adventure, this is not yet confirmed due to the pressures of preparing for the upcoming campaigns. Further details will be provided at the earliest opportunity.
Previous Campaigns:
Dan has an extensive background competing in endurance events from sailing to ultra running. Below are some of the campaigns he has been involved with.
Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race 2018
Dan purchased the yacht 'Runaway' (Sayer 11) with his wife Nikki in 2016 sight unseen specifically for the 2018 Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. Following an extensive campaign with co-skipper Tom Crabb, the pair completed the race in a time of 33 days 06 hours finishing 4th over line and 4th on overall handicap.
Marathon Des Sable 2015
Following a period of several years of choosing harder and harder events with his good mate Ryan, both Dan and Ryan competed in and finished the 2015 Marathon Des Sables (MDS) race known as the 'Toughest Footrace on the Planet'. The MDS is a multi-stage endurance run through the Sahara desert which Dan completed during his honeymoon following marrying his wife Nikki and to raise funds for Ronald Mcdonald House Charities.
